Dr. Lopez's SPRING 2021 Fundraiser
Amidst, the chaos, uncertainty, pain, and loss of 2020/2021, one thing has kept us going:
radical love, community, and *HARM REDUCTION MAGIC*
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, HIPS did the following:
- distributed 12,000 overdose prevention kits
- exchanged 551,468 syringes
- conducted over 6000 center visits
- conducted 2500 mobile visits
As we move through 2021, HIPS continues to provide services to those most impacted by the intersection of the War on Drugs, the overdose crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and structural racism.
Please support my "Spring 2021 Harm Reduction Magic" fundraiser by giving some love to HIPS and harm reduction in Washington, D.C.!
HIPS provides essential services through both their drop-in center and mobile outreach like:
- overdose education, naloxone distribution, and fentanyl test strips
- primary care
- behavioral health services
- syringe access
- housing services
- a legal clinic
- substance use treatment, including medication assisted treatment
I have worked in harm reduction in various capacities for over 2 decades and now serve on the Board of Directors for HIPS. HIPS is a nationally-recognized model for providing trauma-informed, justice-oriented care to DC's marginalized communities. They are doing the work!
