Help HIPS Open its Brand New "Center for Health & Acheivement"
Not only do I love HIPS, but I love to love them!
This February, help me show some love to the most wonderful harm reduction organization in the District and donate to support their expansion!
Why is HIPS so great? Let me count (some of) the ways.
In a time where nonprofits are struggling and closing their doors, HIPS is moving to an exciting new model to stay sustainable for the community. The new Center will co-locate its harm reduction services like syringe exchange, safer sex material distribution, HIV and hep C testing, and peer support groups with medical, pharmacy, and drug treatment services.
HIPS is Dedicated.
HIPS serves communities often ignored or mistreated by other service providers, and they go where they're needed. HIPS is open to the community every weekday, and volunteers spend their weekend nights -- all night -- in the mobile van doing outreach around the city. Not only does HIPS offer crucial services, they regularly speak up on local policy issues affecting their clients.
HIPS Lives Its Mission, 100%.
HIPS promotes the health, rights, and dignity of individuals and communities impacted by sexual exchange and/or drug use due to choice, coercion, or circumstance. HIPS provides compassionate harm reduction services, advocacy, and community engagement that is respectful, non-judgmental, and affirms and honors individual power and agency.
We believe that those engaged in sex work, sex trade, and drug use should be able to live healthy, self-determined, and self-sufficient lives free from stigma, violence, criminalization or oppression. We will achieve this through engaging sex workers, drug users and our communities in challenging structural barriers to health, safety, and prosperity.
Supporting HIPS is something I'm so very proud to do, especially in this exciting time to expand and improve services for drug users and sex workers in the city I call home.
Please consider making a donation today, to further this great and important work as HIPS makes the move into its shiny new Center! It's going to take a lot of help, but I've already kicked it off by donating the first $900 myself. Please give what you can -- every dollar counts!
