Dr. Andrea Lopez

I am a professor and researcher with expertise in medical anthropology, urban anthropology, the anthropology of drug use, health inequities, the War on Drugs, and social suffering in U.S. urban contexts. I have over two decades of experience working with unstably housed and homeless people who use drugs, both in a harm reduction direct service capacity and as a trauma-informed researcher. I am currently a professor the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland and have been on the HIPS Board since 2020.
