Advocacy 101

This interactive workshop will provide volunteers with the basic skills and strategies for advocacy work at the community level (ANC meetings, etc), with city government (the Mayor's office and City Council), and even on The Hill. We'll discuss best practices for getting in contact with officials, framing our issues, and making compelling arguments. We'll also practice responding to uncomfortable questions, hostility, and other challenges that can come up when advocating for sex worker and drug user rights. Councilmember Grosso will share strategies that he's developed from many years of successful advocacy in the District, and will help volunteers hone their advocacy skills through role plays and discussing real-life scenarios.
